Equity Office Property’s Status a Source of Speculation
National Real Estate Investor, Feb. 15, 2007
Hartzell
Equity Office Property Trust’s packed portfolio was the recent source of struggle in the biggest buyout in American real-estate history. The Blackstone Group conquered the competition to take over EOP, causing market observers to question how Blackstone will deal with EOP’s assets. “I would be surprised if [EOP] stays independent,” said Jay Hartzell, associate finance professor and associate director of the Real Estate Finance & Investment Center at McCombs. “As a portfolio manager, it wouldn’t make much sense to leave this as a stand-alone. You would want to integrate all you could with whatever other assets you were considering holding.” Get the full story.

MPA Student Recognized for Prestigious Harrington Fellowship

MPA student Xiaowen (Sherry) Ma received a fellowship from the UT Harrington Graduate Program. Ma will become a lifelong member of the Harrington Society, which is designed to build a sense of community among its members through special programs and events. She will also receive a one-year stipend of $30,000, full tuition and fees, a stipend for medical insurance and a $2,000 allowance for other expenses.

Ma entered the MPA program in fall 2006, sailing through the admissions process due to her perfect GMAT score and a BS in economics from Louisiana State University (with a 4.0 undergraduate GPA). Married with two children, Ma is extremely grateful for the award. “And, my intro to taxation class will definitely come in handy when I need to estimate my taxes on that,” she smiles.

Ma was featured in an ad announcing this year’s awardees in the Feb. 28 edition of The New York Times. As a Harrington Fellow, she joins current accounting doctoral students Kendall Bowlin, Michael Crawley, Kirill Novoselov and Jennifer Winchel, who were honored with the fellowship in recent years.
