Anjali Gupta is your typical McCombs student—studying hard for finals; juggling a part-time job, a full class load and school activities; and dreaming of a career as a VJ (video jockey). But this fifth-year BHP senior and MPA candidate is also busy interviewing for her dream accounting jobs, contemplating job offers, and planning her move to New York. “I’m looking forward to moving to New York—I’ve been working toward this for five years now,” said Gupta. For her, New York represents career possibilities, a chance to dip into the fast pace of a great city, and an established professional network through the McCombs and UT alumni groups in New York. “The McCombs alumni have been so great to me, both as mentors and inspiration,” Gupta remarked. “When I see and talk with them about what they have accomplished, it gives me great confidence in my own abilities and my education.” She is also anxious to implement some of the on-the-job skills she has gained by working for the McCombs Office of Resource Development. “My focus is accounting, so I was interested in learning about the development and fundraising aspects of higher education; however, I think I learned a lot more about marketing,” Gupta said. “It was a real life lesson to see the impact marketing has on the school and finances. It just makes me appreciate the alumni and my education even more.”
