Maria Pineda, BBA ’08, graduated 30 years after she first set foot in a University of Texas at Austin classroom.
She and her husband came to the university, sight unseen, in 1978, after earning associate’s degrees from a Laredo junior college. They were both majoring in business and were eager to start classes. Read full profile.

U.S. News and World Report named McCombs the number six undergraduate business school in the nation in its 2009 rankings. The accounting program maintained its first-place rank for the third year in a row. In arguably the school’s best U.S. News undergraduate rankings to date, all 12 McCombs specialties ranked in the top 10, with seven programs placing in the top five. Read more.

Sue Gove, BBA '78, Named Golfsmith EVP, COO Golfsmith International Holdings Inc. announced the appointment of Sue E. Gove as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Ms. Gove will initially oversee finance, supply chain and distribution, human resources, information technology and loss prevention. Read more.
Mike Svatek, BBA '98, Bazaarvoice VP of Product Strategy Bazaarvoice announced that Mike Svatek has joined the company as its first vice president of product strategy. Svatek holds an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley and a BBA from the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas, Austin. Read more.

VIP Distinguished Speaker Series Opened to Alumni
The VIP Distinguished Speaker Series, a student event organized by the Undergraduate Business Council, was opened to all McCombs alumni this year. Last month, Liam McGee, Bank of America president of global consumer and small business banking, spoke to UT students and alumni about the financial crisis and the importance of values and ethics in business. Cynthia Cooper, author and Worldcom whistleblower, addressed students and alumni this month. Read more.

David C. Rader, executive vice president and CFO for Frito-Lay North America, spoke to McCombs alumni at the Frito-Lay North America Headquarters in Plano, TX. Rader addressed the current economic situation and its impacts on Frito-Lay, and shared insight into the direction of the company.  Dr. William W. Cooper and Sara Martinez Tucker Named Presidential Citation Award Recipients The University of Texas at Austin selected McCombs faculty member William W. Cooper and Sara Martinez Tucker, MBA ’79, to receive the prestigious Presidential Citation for 2008. The Presidential Citation was created in 1979 to recognize the extraordinary contributions of individuals who personify the university’s commitment to the task of transforming lives.
